I wish I could take the time to review each individual dvd, and eventually, I want to do that, but I wanted to write my overall thoughts here.
I love this product. I've just been introduced to signing time about a month ago, and as an 38 year old mom of 7 learning asl, I have found them invaluable to me and my children. I've checked into the other children's sign language products out there, (after seeing Signing Time), and these by far exceeds them all. Rachel is beautiful. Not because of her looks, (though that too), but her spirit and life she puts into this product. How she speaks to the audience. Her explanation of the signs are excellent. The songs, performance of the songs, etc... are superb. I can't say enough. Alex and Leah and Lucy are adorable, as are all of the children that participate.
I started watching the videos "out of order", so we were all in love with them by the time we got to see dvds 1-3 in Series 1. I love these too. No, the "entertainment" is not what the following dvds offer, but she was just getting started, they were feeling their way around, and seeing what they wanted to do, if they were going to continue, etc.. This series started out for her family and friends, after all. I still think volumes 1-3 in series 1 are better than other sign language dvds from other sources. Yes, Rachel seems shy in front of the camera in the first three, and doesn't talk as much, but the signs, information, and children are of good quality.
As far as the comments about Series 2 not having as many songs. I feel that Rachel went above and beyond with the songs and performances in the first Series. It takes lots of effort and talent to write these songs, and come up with the program. I think the format in the second series, though different than the first, is still of the same great quality that we've come to expect from Signing time.
As far as price. I think they are a worthwhile investment. If it looks like a lot to buy the bundle all at once, and if you can't afford that, nickle and dime it a few at a time. Again looking around at other products, whose quality is not as great, the prices are the same as an individual price in the Signing Time Series.
I love the flash cards, bright colors, clear explanations and pictures of Rachel signing the signs. I haven't seen the books yet.
I am in no way affiliated with Signing Time, (though I do plan to join the Academy soon), I don't know Rachel personally, I'm an average consumer.
I feel Rachel's story is touching, what she has experienced with Leah and Lucy, and I know it's not any more unique in countless other stories, but as a Christian, I must say, I think God gave Rachel Coleman special blessings of talent, (before motherhood)and special blessings in her girls. What she had done with Signing Time is an excellent contribution to all who come in contact with it.
The whole team deserves props, her sister is also a talented writer/creator, and her father's music...
Thank you Signing time for opening the world to asl communication for us. These vocabulary cds, will wet your appetite for learning more of this beautiful language.(Posted on 12/6/11)
- The people are great, graphics not so good Review by Mommy

I was very pleased with the content covered on the videos. My daughter is 17 months and signing 20+ words and learning new ones everyday. A part of the greatest sucess was helping me learn signs that I can use in everyday life with her. I learn as much as she does. The songs and singing/signing are unparalleled! Soo great. My 9 year old even loves the videos too.
The down side is that the graphics are cheap and for what you pay for it's not fair. The animation is amateur at best.
The cost almost put these out of reach for my girls. My husband said no way would he pay that much. I had to take donations from family members, it was embarrassing. With contributions from my mother, father, my aunt, my uncle and my husband's father, I had enough to get this. So I expected the best quality everything and it definitely missed the mark.
But I love Leah, Alex and her mom and the songs on the dvds are very special. Overall, I would definitely rather have the videos than not.(Posted on 11/10/11)
- Love them, too Expensive Review by ParentWhoCares

These DVDs are amazing. We have been renting them from the library. Our daughter can communicate so much better than most 18 month olds. I know it works, but the price is way too much for an average family. I will not buy them until they come down significantly.

- Good but expensive Review by Charmed

My husband is deaf and I am hearing. We are trying to teach our son sign language so that they (my husband and son) do not have to rely on me to assist in their communication. Baby Signing Time has been a wonderful experience for our family. I have to agree with others that the cost is quite expensive and it would be nice to see these DVD's offered at a lower cost. I feel that way with many things related to sign language. I also love Hopkins but I think at times, he is not properly mannered on the DVD's. It is cute that he burps and the kids (Alex & Leah) laugh. However, my son has also picked up on that and instead of saying "Excuse Me", he laughs.

I LOVE the signing time dvds. My twins and later my 26 week preemie love them still. They were all able to communicate before the average child is verbal. I absolutely feel learning sign language has given them a leg up on language and speech skills. My little guy with many issues is at grade level and I am convinced that intense early intervention - of which sign language was a part - is responsible.

- signing times are the best. Review by liz

i was first exposed to these recently through early intervention as my daughter lost her speech at 15 mnths. i had been trying to teach her sign language prior to her gaining and losing speech but was unsuccessful. the very first dvd we recieved she had already picked up about a handful of signs and now has a signing vocabulary of 30-40 words in just 3 mnths time and she has regained at least one word she was saying previously and many more sounds. we wouldlove the whole set but i can't afford that much money so we continue to borrow ones when we can

- A TREASUR NOT TO PASS, NOT TO MISS. Review by Nadia and Baby

I am the mother of a 14 months old baby who does not have a challenge. BUT I am Thrilled to have bought the entire collection of signing time even though she can hear. I though it was very expensiv for the cheap stake that I am but I can now scream and yell to everyone not to stop because of the price. THe price is absolutly nothing in comparaison to the greatness of all the materials of signing times.
My 14 months old baby speaks to me with her hands, ho my!!!
I offered my baby FREEDOM, freedom to speak to me before she can speak. Freedom to express herself.
I don't want her to watch TV just yet so I watch the DVD while she sleeps and teaches her the signs the next day. I am having fun to watching the DVD's a all lot to.
Thanks to the flash cards we have so so so much fun with them. Her attention span last a very very long time cause we are busy testing... and I praise her so much everytime she got the sign rights, and she gets excited and the game goes on and on.
THe books are faboulus. I don't know about anyone else but I had a very very hard time reading her stories that are all dreading to me, and she cannot take it either even so she ASK to have a book read. Now with our signing time books, I LOVE TO READ THE SIGNING TIME books and she wants to be read at all along the day. THey are the only books I can read to her from when she opens her eyes until she goes back to bed because they are simple super well made with big clear colorfull drawings and we both interact wich makes the books . Signing times book are for me the only books I am enjoying and she with me.
The CD's great to practice all the vocabulary while we are in the car except that I the driver want to prticipate but i should not remove my hands from the wheel.
All in all when I decided to buy the entire coolection I thought the flash cards and CD's would be a waist but it is the complete oppose. It gives life to the DVD's because they makes us interact, communicate, practice and play.
I have never been happyer in my life that with the signing time collection.
Nadia and baby girl Carla 14 months and another one on the way.
Thank You!(Posted on 6/11/11)
- Price too steep Review by BST Fan

We have been watching sigining time since my 2 year old was 9 mth. She only signs for her form of communication. She has bonded with Alex and Leah, even Hopkins. However, with her love for the DVD's comes damage. She has scratched a few, we have to thank grandma for the frist set. But, we are unable to replace the broken/scratched DVD's. Too expensive. That make for one sad 2 year old. I would be willing to pay 13.00 -15.00 but, I just can't budget for what they are offering. I hope these reviews are read and taken in to account. You would have a much stronger following if prices were more realalistic.
